Metal in Motion, a touring exhibition which began at Brighton Museum and Ary Gallery, explored the inherent dynamism of metal as an artistic medium and involved a number of young artists from the burgeoning London art scene. The exhibition included a subtle shift in her oeuvre from the brightly coloured sculptures of the early eighties to the more sombre Smoke Screen (1987) made of leather and angular sheets of gold metal. Though Cluett continued to travel throughout the eighties, she took on the position of Principal Lecturer on both the BA and MA fine art sculpture courses at Chelsea College of Art and Design.
